John the Baptist said, “The friend of the Bridegroom…rejoices greatly because of the Bridegroom’s voice”. Hearing Jesus speak with the revelation that He was the Bridegroom caused John’s heart to be full of joy. The same is true for us. The following are passages from the Song of Solomon where Jesus is speaking to us His bride with adoration. I specifically chose the phrases that are statements of His cherishing and nourishing love (Eph 5:29).

Here are some simple steps you can use with these verses as a tool in your times of prayer and meditation.

1) Say each verse to yourself either aloud or silently in prayer.

2) Allow each phrase to take on personal meaning and accept them as Jesus’ words to you.

3) When one of the phrases strikes you, stay there, repeat that phrase and allow it to touch your heart more deeply.

4) As you’re experiencing Jesus’ affections thank Him for what you’re receiving and ask for more revelation.

5) Allow your heart to respond to Jesus with adoration and love as you hear His voice speaking to you.
