Romans 5:1-5, Glory in Tribulations, Pt. 2
Rom 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ
THE CONCEPT OF JUSTIFICATION – THE PROCLAMATION OF OUR INNOCENCE
The word ‘justify’, shows up in the Scripture about 50 times. 1/3rd of those are in the book of Romans.
The Greek term that we translate justify – is a legal term that was used in Roman courts of law to describe that an individual had been acquitted of the crimes that they were accused of. It was a proclamation of innocence over the accused.
We have not simply been forgiven, we have been justified. Read more…
Romans 5:1-5 Glory in Tribulations, Part 1
Rom 5:1-5 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Upcoming Series on Romans 5:1-5 – Glory in Tribulations
My next series of posts are from a 7-part sermon series I preached in the fall of 2009.
I was reviewing my notes from the sermon Glory in Tribulations, mostly because I needed it, and thought this might be helpful to others, now and in the days ahead.
The notes will be fairly cryptic, basically what I preach from, but hopefully they will be an encouragement to you.
Stay Tuned I’ll get the first one out sometime today.
I’ll post one every other day for the next 2 weeks
The Father Wants to Laugh & Play
God is from everlasting to everlasting. Uncreated. He has no beginning and no end. He has been forever and forever will be. I know those lofty statements are difficult to wrap your mind around, but they’re true nonetheless.
What’s interesting is that the Scripture actually gives us a glimpse into what God was doing before He created the universe. The Bible uses phrases like, “Before time began”, “Before the world was”, “Before there was ever an earth” that all describe this season of existence…when it was just God.
Developing a Culture of Prayer
- Here’s a little article I just wrote for a leadership magazine that has a circulation to about 25,000 Pastor’s & Leaders.-
Many pastors and leaders desire to have powerful prayer ministries in their churches. Most understand that prayer is an essential foundation for ministry. Unfortunately many of our prayer meetings are sparsely attended, while many in our churches are fairly prayer-less. Oftentimes, efforts to cultivate prayer through sermon series or special events only inspire for a short time. After a month or two, interest wanes and we return to the place we began, desiring and needing more prayer.
The Olivet Discourse
I am currently teaching a class on Jesus’ Olivet Discourse – His clearest teaching on the end of the age. Here is an excerpt of my notes on Matthew 24, which offers an outline of the entire chapter. Hope it’s helpful for your studies.
Oil – The Essential Need
Back in the Game
Due to an all encompassing move of the Spirit from Jan – Oct that culminated with 25 decisions for Christ, 40 Baptisms and 1000+/- testimonies of healing and deliverance… my blog has been dormant for several months.
I don’t feel bad about it though, because I’d take a move of the Spirit over an active blog any day of the week.
The Greater Glory
First off… My apologies for the lack of blogging during the month of March. With the addition of weekly awakening services my schedule and life has been turned upside down. Hopefully I’ll find the blogging rhythm once again. Here’s an update on the awakening meetings and some additional thoughts.
We just completed our 10th weekend of extended meetings and my heart is so grateful for all that the Lord has done and simultaneously so hungry for more of His presence. This past weekend we baptized 20 people and saw several more give there lives to the Lord. My favorite baptism was a guy that got saved, spirit-filled and slain in the spirit last weekend and then baptized in water, making a public profession of his faith, this weekend. The fun part is that he works at IHOP (the pancake place). Read more…
Josiah’s Reform
Last week a pastor in our city sent me a message telling me about a dream he had in which he was being choked by a demon. He could barely utter the name Jesus and when He did the spirit loosed it’s hold on his throat. The Lord spoke to him in the dream and said the spirit was the “anti-spirit of Josiah”.
